Will you make it to the very end or will this be your last camping trip ever?
Note: You know, I should just make this a permanent rule, but oh well. Please pm your reviews so that it leaves room for the other chapters.
Disclaimer: I don't own Kingdom Hearts... you don't want to know what would happen if I did.
"Please! Won't you go? Everyone's going, even Saix!"
"And that's why I'm not going."
"Axel! Come on! There is no way I'll feel safe at night with Xemnas, Saix, and even Sephiroth too! You wouldn't leave me along with them would you?" you gave him the infamous puppy eyes. To add to that image, you dropped to your knees and tugged on the bottom of his black cloak.
Axel twitched and gave a sigh before kneeling down to remove your hands from his cloak. You stood up and brushed some dirt from the ground off your pants. Puppy eyes plus begging, always worked; unless Axel was in a bad mood then he'd be resistant to it's power. You grinned before walking away towards home; you had finished your mission after all, what reason was there to stay?
Well, other than the fact that you like him.
'So what? It's not as if he likes me back,' you told the voice in your head.
At least you're not denying it.
'I passed that stage a long time ago, or do you not remember?' you asked the voice.
You did? Hm, I don't remember.
‘Wow, for a voice in my head you don’t know much about me do you?’ you asked it.
I’m absentminded, I can’t help it. After all, I’m you so whatever trait I have, you have.
“Great, I’m talking to myself. That is so smart,” you said sarcastically out loud.
Yes, that is why you’re about to walk into that fence.
“What?” Sure enough, in front of you was a fence. Stopping, you blink and remind yourself not to talk to any voices in your head. Seeing as how that would schizophrenia.
You continued walking along the fence until you reached the crosswalk. You made sure that there were no cars before crossing it. Sighing, you thought about what the voice has said when you saw someone with red hair in the distance. What the voice has said was true. You did like your friend Axel, but he didn’t like you back. After all, he hadn’t ever shown signs of liking you, so that must mean that he doesn’t. Even so, you were okay with being his friend, even if he was obnoxious sometimes.
You shook your head, your hair flying everywhere. “Okay! Now’s not the time to be thinking of that! I’m going camping with my friends for a week! I should be hurrying home to pack!” You nodded fiercely before running towards your house.
The person with red hair smirked. So, she was going camping was she? Perhaps it was time for a little intervention. The person would have laughed evilly, but that would make people look at the red head funny, and after that the men in white would come. No one wanted them to come, ever. The person walked away. They had a home to go to and stuff to pack. The person would go back to stalking her tomorrow. Now, where would one go to borrow a car? Why, their older sister of course! What a perfect idea!
Sunlight was nonexistent when you told your parents goodbye and left the house. The vehicle in your driveway was too long to be a car, but too short to be a bus. This meant that it was a van!
You shouldered your bag and walked over to the black van. The front door opened and you saw Cid come out.
“Morning,” he said in greeting. He took your bag and placed it in the compartment with the other bags. Without waiting for your own greeting, he opened the side door and walked back to the front door.
You shrugged and guessed that Cid wasn’t a morning person. Hm, you wondered what he did in his spare time when he wasn’t fixing or making cars. Wait, he slept of course. You chuckled before walking over to the van and got in without looking. “Good morning everyone!” you called out. You wondered why they were so silent when you noticed that they were a bunch of old people. Blinking, you looked at the driver in a confused way. “Am I in the wrong time period? Cause, my friends are still in high school, they can’t be old!” you exclaimed to her.
“No, you’re in the right time period, just the wrong van,” she answered pointing to the van in front of her.
“Oh!” You blushed brightly and hurried out of the van. What were a bunch of old people doing up before dawn anyway?
“Marcie, could we get going? Most of us are getting bored, and we’d like to get to the ski course sometime soon,” you heard one of the old ladies say to the driver.
Well, that explained what they were doing, an odd explanation, but an explanation none the less. You shrugged and walked into the van that you were supposed to go into in the first place. Upon entering the van, raucous sounds of laughter met your ears.
Again, you blushed and hurriedly took your seat. Which was the only seat left, and it was next to Roxas. Not that minded sitting next to him, after all, he was your best friend besides Axel, but then Axel was your crush. Anyway, the only problem you had with sitting next to Roxas was the fact that he was full out laughing at you. At you, who was his best friend! How could he laugh like that when his best friend was sitting right next to him? Oh, and it didn’t help that most everyone was laughing too.
You stood up and glared at everyone. Cid, in the driver’s seat just sat there patiently waiting for everyone to stop, or was that impatience? Behind Cid, sat Yuffie and Kairi. Kairi and Yuffie were laughing, but Kairi had the decency to try to cover it up. Behind them were Sora and Riku. One laughing, one chuckling, and you still glaring. What was the world coming to when the Brownie and the Silver didn’t respond to your glares? You glared even harder and was satisfied when they stopped. At least no one in the back rows was laughing, but Naminé and Aerith had small smiles on their faces. Little small smiles that mocked your every move. Across the row from them was Cloud and Leon. Smirks on their faces and brands of stupid on their forehead. Well, no brands, but like Aerith and Naminé; their smirks were practically mocking you. Thankfully, the back row was silent. Sephiroth had his own seat and Xemnas and Saix sat in another. You wondered why they wanted to go on this trip. Did they have something evil planned to ruin their entire camping trip? Or, were they just going because they wanted to? You weren’t sure, but you decided on the latter as you sat back down.
“If everyone’s done laughing; I’ll start the car,” Cid said gruffly.
“Van,” you corrected.
“Whatever,” he grumbled.
You grinned and turned around in your seat to address a problem. A problem that Axel and Demyx were still laughing! “Would you two be quiet? Or, do I have to hit you to shut you up?” you growled at them menacingly.
“Don’t blame them for laughing (Your Name), it’s not their fault you’re so hilarious,” Roxas said grinning.
“Anyone could have made that mistake!” you protested.
“No one, but you,” Demyx put in.
“Demy, shut up!” you yelled.
“Why? He’s telling the truth isn’t he?” Axel asked.
You jumped up ready to strangle him, but Roxas pulled you back down. Turning on Roxas, you tried to lunge at him, but a sudden bump caused you to fall against him instead. You got off him, but another bump caused you to fall down again. This time, Roxas grabbed your shoulders and helped you back to your seat.
“Thanks Roxas,” you muttered.
“Sure, just try not to get angry so easily okay?” he said with a smile.
“I can’t really help it,” you said apologetically. “Anyway, what’s with all the bumps in the road anyway?” You looked out the window and saw nothing but trees. “Hey Cid! What’s with the scenery?”
“We’re going off road,” he answered.
“Why?” you asked.
“Now don’t annoy the driver (Your Name), we wouldn’t want him to drive us down a cliff do you?” Axel asked reprimanding.
Your eye started twitching and you tried to calm down. There was something about Axel that just made you so mad! Maybe it was the fact that he always found a way to say something to annoy you. As you were about to lose your cool, Sora walked up to your seat.
“Er, (Your Name) do you want to switch seats? I need to talk to Roxas about something,” he said.
Oh the lovely little brownie! He was saving you, and here you thought that you were going to have to make Cid stop the van, so that you could beat Axel up. “Sure, I’ll go chat with Riku while I’m at it.” You got out of your seat, but nearly fell backwards when the van went over another bump. Luckily, both Sora and Roxas had grabbed a hold of your hand and pulled you to your feet. “Thanks,” you said gratefully.
“Would all of you sit down already?” Cid yelled.
Sora hurriedly sat down. Roxas had already sat down by the window seat, and you went back one row to sit with Riku. He smiled at you and went back to doing what he was doing before. What was so interesting out the window anyway? Well, other than the scenery, but you would get plenty of chance to see that later. Still, what was he looking at? You weren’t sure, but you didn’t want to bother him, so you turned around in your seat to talk with Naminé and Aerith.
“Hi, so what do you two want to do when we get there?” you asked.
“Well, the tents would have to be set up first,” Aerith said softly.
“We would also have to gather wood,” Naminé offered up.
You listened as they made suggestions on the camping trip. You blinked sleepily, and turned back around. You slid down in your seat a little and nodded off.
Riku stared out the window glancing at the scenery as it passed by. He froze when he felt something on his shoulder. Turning his head, he noticed that you had fallen asleep and you were leaning on him. A soft smile came onto his face, and he gently adjusted you so that you were leaning against him in a more comfortable way.
“What do you think you’re doing Riku?” Axel asked his voice low.
“Getting her comfortable, is that a problem Axel?” Riku asked with a smirk.
“No,” Axel grinded out.
“Oh, so you’re not jealous?” Riku asked.
“Why would I-” Axel stopped as he saw what Riku was doing.
He had adjusted you again, so that you were leaning against him even more so. His arm was draped across your waist holding you to him.
Axel’s green eyes hardened and if not for the fact that: one; Demyx and you were in the way and two; the van was still moving or he would have gone ahead and attacked the silver-haired boy.
“Hey, we’ll be there in a few minutes. Can the two of you get along until then?” Kairi asked turning around in her seat to face Riku and Axel.
“I can get along fine, it’s Axel you should be worried about,” Riku said.
“Axel?” Kairi prompted.
“He’s acting as if he owns her!” Axel yelled.
“No, I’m not,” Riku said calmly. “Now, be quiet. She’s sleeping.”
Axel closed his mouth and settled for glaring at Riku instead. When Cid finally stopped the van, you had woken up. You had no idea of the argument that had happened while you had been asleep. You woke to find yourself leaning on Riku, although you thought that he had been holding you. You guessed it was just a dream then.
“Riku, sorry I leaned on you while I was sleeping,” you said turning to look at him.
“Don’t worry you didn’t do any harm.” Riku smiled and extended his hand towards you to help you up.
“Thank you,” you said taking his hand. He pulled you up and the both of you got out of the van. Everyone else had already gotten out and you saw that Axel was looking, wait no, glaring in your direction. Perplexed, you ran over to him. “Axel, what’s the matter? Why are you glaring at me?”
Axel wasn’t able to reply because Yuffie had come over and dragged you off.
“Axel, leave (Your Name) out of this. This fight is between us only,” Riku said coming to face Axel.
“A fight? Oh, so is that what it is? Then why don’t we have one now,” Axel taunted. He stepped toward Riku, his hand curled into a fist. Riku glared at him, and made his own fist.
“Come on you two! Leave your lover’s triangle thing out of the way until the tents have been set up!” Yuffie said appearing suddenly in the middle of them preventing them from harming the other. How she did that no one knows, but Yuffie is Yuffie and what she does is what she does.
“Whatever,” Axel said. He walked off and leaned against a tree. He watched everyone with lidded eyes, but he watched you in particular.
Riku frowned at the direction Axel was looking in. Was he jealous? Yes, after all, he had a crush on you since junior high and was still there even in high school. Just because Axel was your best friend and had known you longer did not mean that he would just give up. No, if anything, he’d compete for you.
Riku smirked and watched as you fumbled around trying to set up the tents. He walked over and held the pole as you tied the strings.
“Thank you Riku! That tent just doesn’t like me one bit!” you said with a grin.
“It doesn’t? Maybe it just needs a few words of encouragement,” he said.
You shrugged and looked around. Cid had left, he said he had a few orders to get finished up, and all the tents had been put up. There was still the matter of who would stay in what tent though. You saw Aerith and decided to ask her. “Hey Aerith, who’s going to stay in what tent?”
“Hay is for horses,” Riku said beside you.
You playfully glared at him and gently shoved him. He grinned at you and gave a shrug as if to say he was only joking.
Aerith came over and said, “Well, we have a total of five tents and fifteen people. I guess that Sephiroth will want his own tent…”
“The girls will have to have their own tent.” You pointed to one of the tents.
“Except that the tents can only fit four,” Aerith said frowning.
“Then I’ll be in the one of the other tents.”
“Xemnas and Saix will probably want a tent to themselves too.”
“What about the last two tents?”
“Leon, Cloud, and Roxas will have one tent, then Sora, Axel, Demyx, and I can be in the last one,” Riku put in as he watched you ponder over the two tents, one being the one you deemed, ‘evil’.
“What about (Your Name)?” Aerith asked.
“I’ll be in the tent with Leon, Cloud, and Roxas,” you answered.
“Are you sure? You don’t have to do that,” Aerith asked.
“Of course I’m sure. None of the other girls will want to, and I doubt you yourself will either. Everyone knows you’re Cloud’s girlfriend even if he doesn’t exactly show it. As such, the boyfriend and girlfriend cannot be in the same tent,” you said with a firm nod.
“I could!” Yuffie shouted coming over to them.
“No Yuffie, you can’t. You would drive the boys insane enough to kill you,” you said. You chuckled as you thought of that happening. Completely out of character of them, but wouldn’t you go crazy too, if you’re trying to sleep but there’s some insanely hyper girl in the same tent as you?
“Okay,” Yuffie said dejectedly, but she brightened up as she thought of something else. “Hey, someone needs to go get the wood for the fire tonight! (Your Name), let’s go!” She didn’t leave you room for complaint because she had dragged you off towards the forest. Wow, Yuffie sure did like to drag you a lot.
Riku watched you go and with wide eyes watched as Yuffie nearly rammed you into a tree. He hoped you’d get back alright.
Aerith smiled as she saw where he was looking. “She won’t know unless you tell her.”
“Know what?” Riku asked with a blank look.
“It’s as obvious as the fact that Axel likes her too,” Aerith answered.
“If I’m so obvious, why doesn’t she know?” Riku asked softly.
“That’s the way she is. She doesn’t like people fighting over her,” Aerith said reminding him of his argument with Axel before. “Another thing, if you are in competition with Axel for her heart, why did you have him be in the same tent as you?”
“Haven’t you heard the saying Aerith? ‘Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer’?” Riku asked.
“I see,” she said with a look of understanding. She clapped her hands together and said, “Since we’ve decided the tent arrangements, we should tell the others and put our stuff into our tents.”
Riku nodded and went off to do that. He wondered how Axel would react when he’d hear that he would have to share the same tent with his rival. He didn’t really care though. It was a war between him and Axel, and it was a war that Riku would win.
