You were simply put worried. Wait, no, not worried, extremely worried. What were you worried about? Well, the day was October 31, and you had forgotten to buy candy to give to the trick-or-treaters. Actually, you ate all the candy that you bought, but that doesn't count. Usually, every year you planned to go out and trick-or-treat yourself, but this year you had to stay home. The reason why? Well, you got sick with the flu. Or, at least a minor version of it. Still, a flu was a flu, so you had to stay home. That wasn't what worried you though. What worried you was that your best friend Riku had gone out and hadn't returned since he left earlier that day to buy you some candy because he loved you so much to do that for you. Well, actually, he didn’t love you, but you’d like him to. You were in love with him of course, but even though he was a sexy and flirtatious silver-haired bishonen, he had no idea. None! He didn’t even realize that you liked him and your closest friends knew! Well, they didn’t count, but your second closest friends knew! Wait, they don’t count either. Oh, this will definitely count. Your parents even knew that you liked him. And, when your parents know, it means it’s painfully obvious.
So, that was why you were extremely worried. Currently you were laying flat on your stomach with your face to the floor. It wasn’t really that uncomfortable, but the cool marble that was your kitchen floor did a lot to help you tone down the heat that seemed to want to suffocate you. Hm, was being really hot a sign of a fever? You weren’t sure, so you stayed where you were. Content to let the marble cool you down. Or, at least it would have done that if your overheated body hadn’t gone and made that spot warm. Sighing, you stood up and wearily walked over to the window. You rubbed at the mist that had started to form and peered out. Don’t ask me how mist formed inside your house, but let’s just say that’s how cold it was! There was no sign of your best friend, and you feared that he had been kidnapped. Kidnapped by the evil seemingly harmless bunnies of doom! Why they kidnapped him, you weren’t sure; maybe they wanted the chocolates or something. Who knows? You walked back into the kitchen and found another spot that was sufficiently cool enough for you. You laid down, this time on your back, and let the tension ease out of you.
You must have fallen asleep because the next thing you knew, you were shaken awake. Your eyes flew open and saw silver hair framing a face you knew well with cerulean eyes that were looking at you in concern. “Riku! You’re back! The evil seemingly harmless bunnies of doom didn’t kidnap you! Or, did they and you were able to escape?”
Riku sweatdropped at your question and extended his hand to help you up. You took it gratefully and swayed slightly on your feet as you stood up. Riku placed his hands on your shoulders to steady you.
“Your flu got worse,” he stated rather than asked.
“I don’t know, I’m really hot though, does that count?” you asked cocking your head to the side.
“Of course you’re hot,” Riku said under his breath. I blinked at him not hearing what he had said. He just smiled and said, “Maybe you have a fever?” Riku raised his hand and placed it on your forehead. He took it off and frowned. You frowned as well, but only because of the lack of touch. “It feels like you do. Get to bed.”
“You can’t order me around! You ain’t the boss of me!” you cried.
“Ain’t isn’t proper grammar. And, yes I can boss you around,” Riku answered smugly.
“On what terms?” you asked glaring.
“Well, do the words I love you mean anything?” he asked smiling coyly.
“No, you’re a flirt machine. I don’t think you mean it,” you said dryly. Just because you were in love with him didn’t mean you would believe everything he said.
“What if I said that I do mean it?” he asked.
“Then I still wouldn’t believe you,” you replied back.
“Fine, if words won’t convince you, then actions will.” You would have protested for a number of reasons to oppose whatever action it was, but you were unable to as you found yourself lip to lip with your best friend. Like he said, he showed you exactly what he meant by those words. You couldn’t exactly leave him unanswered though, so you kissed him back. Involuntarily giving your flu to him, not that you knew. Well, you had an idea that it would probably be given to him, but it was rare to see Riku sick, so you didn’t say anything.
Your clock suddenly sprang to life and rang out the hour of midnight. Surprised, both you and Riku stopped kissing and looked at the grandfather clock. Riku gave a chuckle and took you by your hand into the living room and sat with you on the couch. Something occurred to you as you both started making out again. You gently pushed him away and asked, “How come there haven’t been any trick-or-treaters coming? And, where’s the candy?”
You could have sworn his eye twitched when he heard you say that. “Well, the store was out of candy, and as for the trick-or-treaters, I put some chocolates into a bowl outside.”
“Wait, chocolates? Were they in rectangular packets?” you asked.
“Yeah, why?” he asked.
You stood up a murderous look in your eyes. “Those were my pocky! You gave my pocky away? Riku, I’m going to kill you!”
He stood up hurriedly and backed away from you. “Hey, you wouldn’t murder your boyfriend would you?”
“What else? You let my precious pocky get taken by little trick-or-treaters! Pockys are priceless compared to our love!” I said grabbing a very heavy paperweight off the table.
“I’m hurt, you care more about chocolate than our love?” he asked placing a hand over his heart overdramatically. He backed away a few more steps as you walked toward him.
“No, but in this case I’m willing to take their side,” you said with an evil grin.
Riku’s eyes widened and he backed away. Suddenly, he stopped and you wondered why he had on a funny face. You found out why when he sneezed. He had a surprised and bewildered face on and placed the heavy paperweight down.
“I guess I don’t have to kill you after all. Seeing you sick will probably pay back those poor innocent pocky,” you said. A wistful look entered your eyes as you thought of the delicious, savory, sticks of absolute delight.
“Great, so I’m stuck with your flu now?” Riku asked looking at you in a disgruntled way.
“Yep, but think of it this way. Now, we both can miss school tomorrow!” you said happily. You sat down on the couch and fluffed a nearby pillow. “Sit!”
He sat down and gave a sigh. “Remind me never to kiss you when you’re sick.”
“Does that include when you’re sick too?” you asked a devious grin on your lips.
“No, but your parents will be home soon,” he said.
“Okay, but there’s still tomorrow.” You sighed and adjusted your position so that your head was on Riku’s lap. “Good night!”
Riku just smiled as you used his head as a pillow. He placed his arm around you and his head fell back as he too fell asleep.
When your parents came home, they really hadn’t expected what they were seeing. Riku was asleep on the couch, and you were in his embrace also asleep. Smiling, your mother went to get a blanket and placed it on the both of you. Your father gave a chuckle and went into the kitchen to phone Riku’s parents that he would staying over. Your mother sighed and wondered why children grew up so fast. She shrugged and took her husband by her hand. It was late, and they should all follow yours and Riku’s example. After all, sleep was a necessity and unlike the children, they had somewhere to be tomorrow… or rather later that day as it was about one in the morning.
