Title: Valentine's Chocolate
Series: La Corda D'Oro
Genre: Romance
Warnings: None
Summary: Chocolates shaped in the form of a trumpet... Obviously you were completely in love with the guy since you went through all the trouble to put it in that shape. Did he love you back though? Would your love be returned on Valentine's Day?
Pairing: Reader/Hihara
“Mother! We’re all out of cocoa!” you yelled from the kitchen.
“Look in the spare cupboard! I bought some more yesterday!” she yelled back.
You looked where your mother told you to look and a smile burst onto your face in relief. It was right there, the cocoa was right there! The chocolates would be made after all! Valentine’s Day wouldn’t be ruined!
A small smile spread onto your face as you stirred the cocoa into the mixture. You were making chocolates because tomorrow was Valentine’s Day. There was a special someone who you wanted to give it to. You knew him, and he knew you, so there was no problem about strangers and such. Although, you wondered if he would actually return your feelings. Yes, you liked him, no wait, you loved him. You loved the way he smiled, the way he always cheered you up with his positive outlook to life. You loved everything about him, and you also loved the music he made.
The two of you were both third years in the music department. The two of you didn’t play the same instruments though, which was nice since it gave you an excuse to ask him to play for you. Your favorite song had to be Gavotte; it had an upbeat tune that perfectly matched his personality. Sometimes, when he played it, you would join in with your own instrument, a violin.
“Honey, are you done with the kitchen just yet?” your mother asked as she came in. She smiled at you and looked at the baking materials placed haphazardly on the counters. “On second thought, do you want some help?”
‘Kami bless you Mother!’ you thanked in your head. The chocolate recipe you had was giving you a hard time, and she was a whiz in the kitchen so naturally she could help you! You nodded rapidly and put the mix that slowly started to turn into goop to the side. You could bake cake and such fine… but chocolate was where you plummeted into the crevice of no return. Thank goodness for your mother!
The bag of chocolates was shaped in the form of his instrument. You had tried one out and it hadn’t tasted bad, so you went with it. Plus, it was getting late, and you didn’t want to oversleep. So, in the morning, you had picked a cute plastic wrapping to wrap the chocolates up and a card with your name and his on it, so that he would know it was from you. Although, you didn’t think that you would leave it for him to find, so the card was for just in case.
You stared nervously up at the school building decorated in pink and white and gulped. You took a deep breath and continued walking. No time to be nervous, much. You held the top of the bag tightly and waved to some of your friends with your other hand.
“Um, [Name]-senpai, are those chocolates for him?”
You turned around to see your friend Fuyuumi Shoko and you smiled at her. “Yeah, they are. Don’t tell him though okay!” you asked her sincerely. You knew that she wasn’t the type to say things like that, but you had to ask anyway.
She shook her head lightly tossing her cyan colored hair. “I won’t. I hope that it goes well for the both of you,” she said smiling hesitantly.
“You and me both,” you said hoping as well. There were so many things that could happen to prevent a happy ending… “Oh, Happy Valentine’s Day Fuyuumi-chan!”
She nodded with a smile and then her eyes widened. “Oh, he’s over there. Do you want to give it to him now?” she asked.
You looked over and saw that he was talking to Kaho, and you shook your head. “I’ll give it to him later. Right now, I have to go, so bye Fuyuumi-chan!”
Fuyuumi smiled and nodded. “Good luck [Name]-senpai.”
You sadly did not have any classes with him that day. So, it looked like you were going to have to give the chocolates to him after school. It was a good thing you put them in your locker before school started, otherwise they probably would have melted.
Your last class ended and you hurried through the hallway to get to your locker. You had to catch him and tell him! Otherwise, you wouldn’t ever get the courage to again.
As you were walking quickly, you didn’t watch where you were going and bumped into someone. You were about to fall backward when a hand gripped your arm firmly. You looked up to see Yunoki Azuma. “Oh, I’m sorry!”
“It’s alright, are you hurt at all?” he asked smiling down at you as he let go of your arm once he was assured that you wouldn’t fall.
“I’m fine,” you said with a small blush. “It was just a bump, and it was my fault to begin with.”
Yunoki smiled at you and his hand reached up to brush against your cheek. “Are you sure?”
You nodded quickly and your face grew even redder. “Um, uh, Yunoki-san, I have to go. Um, bye,” you said with a small stammer before you walked past him quickly.
Yunoki smiled and raised an eyebrow when he heard a shout behind him. He turned around to see his friend Hihara Kazuki and he smiled once more. “Ah, Hihara-kun, have you been receiving a lot of chocolate today?”
“Never mind that!” Hihara said with a frown. “What was that before?”
Smiling still, Yunoki asked, “What was what?” He certainly knew what his friend was talking about, but he found it to be entertaining to rile him.
“That! Your… your hand brushed against [Name]-chan’s face!” Hihara said.
“Ah,” Yunoki said as if he suddenly understood. He looked at Hihara and raised an eyebrow. “Why do you care? Do you care for [Name]-chan? I thought you liked Kaho-chan?”
Hihara sputtered and said, “I do!”
You were walking back to the hallway where you had bumped into Yunoki. Hopefully, he wouldn’t be there still. As you walked closer you heard Hihara’s voice and your eyes widened. He was there! Who was he talking to though? You stopped walking and listened.
“— I thought you liked Kaho-chan?”
“I do!”
You gasped and covered your mouth. You slowly backed away and processed what you heard. Hihara… liked Kaho-chan? Your heart slowly broke and as you were backing away, bumped into a trash can. Not wanting for either of the boys to discover you, you turned around and ran off. Lying by the trash can though, was the bag of chocolates that you had dropped.
“Huh? What was that?” Hihara walked over to the corner and saw someone run around the corner. “Who was that?”
Yunoki walked past him and over to the trash can. He leaned down and picked something off the floor. “Oh, Hihara-kun, it’s for you.”
“Really?” He hurried over and took the bag from Yunoki’s hands. He looked at it and said, “Chocolates, in the shape of trumpets?”
“Hm, someone spent some time and effort into making these,” Yunoki commented. He noticed a card and raised an eyebrow at the name. “There’s a card.”
Hihara turned the bag over and saw that there was indeed a card. He read the name next to where it said who it was from and his eyes widened. “[Name]-chan,” he spoke in a soft voice. “Was that her?”
Yunoki thought back to their conversation and said, “She must have walked in on hearing you say that you like Kaho-chan.”
“But I don’t like Kaho-chan! I mean, I like her, but not in that way! I really like [Name]-chan!” Hihara explained gripping the bag tightly. He couldn’t believe he made such a mistake! Sure, it was unknowingly, but he hurt your feelings!
“Shouldn’t you be explaining this to her, not me?” Yunoki asked with a small smile.
Hihara’s green eyes widened and he shouted, “Thank you!”
Yunoki watched his friend run after you and he shook his head. When did he become a matchmaker?
Your shoulders were drooped in misery as you walked home. He didn’t like you. He liked Kaho-chan. You made those chocolates for nothing… although you did lose them, somewhere. You heard shouting behind you and your shoulders hunched up when you recognized it as Hihara’s voice. You continued walking and didn’t turn around. You didn’t think that you could stand to talk to him after hearing his confession. A hand gripped your shoulder and you stopped. “Please let go Hihara-kun, I don’t want to talk right now.”
“Just wait! At least let me tell you that your chocolates are really good!” Hihara said letting go as he saw that you weren’t going to suddenly run off.
Your eyes widened and you slowly turned around. There was Hihara, and he was holding your bag of chocolates that you were going to give to him. “Um…”
He saw the look on your face and suddenly his own expression turned serious. He dropped to his knees and placed the bag on the ground before he placed the palm of his hands on the ground as well. “I’m really really sorry! I don’t like Kaho-chan in the way that you heard back there! I like you [Name]-chan! You’re really funny, and your baked goods are really tasty, and—”
You were touched by his words, but his pose struck you as severely funny. A small chuckle escaped from you and then turned into a full blown laugh that had you fall to your knees as well, in laughter though. “Oh Hihara-kun! Please don’t, stop, get up before I can’t laugh anymore!” you gasped in between laughter.
Hihara got up and helped you up as well. The bag of chocolates was in his hand and he took a chocolate out. “Say ah [Name]-chan!”
You blushed both at his use of your first name and the fact that he wanted to feed you before you complied. You opened your mouth and he placed a piece of chocolate in your mouth. You finished eating it and took a piece of chocolate from the bag as well. “Now you Kazuki-kun,” you said with a blush still.
He was blushing as well, but still opened his mouth.
Your blush grew redder as you placed the chocolate in his mouth… and then took a bite of it yourself.
Hihara’s eyes widened at your closeness and grinned while he chewed half the chocolate. “[Name]-chan, there’s a café nearby, wanna go there?”
“Are you asking me out on a date Kazuki-kun?” you asked raising an eyebrow.
“Maybe!” he replied with a grin.
“Then yes! Let’s go!” you shouted and reached for his hand. He took it and smiled at you. You smiled back happy to have your Valentine’s Day to become a happy ending. The two of you were together, and that was certain!
“Oh, Kazuki-kun, can you play Gavotte for me later?” you asked looking up at him.
“Sure, as long as you play too!” he said grinning.
“Okay!” you said smiling brightly.
